Meta Rolls Out Ad-Level Audience Targeting Suggestions
Meta is adding a new layer of audience control: age and gender targeting suggestions set at the individual ad level, rather than only at the ad set level.
Why this matters
Until now, audience targeting in Meta Ads Manager has lived almost entirely at the ad set level. Every ad inside an ad set shared the same age range, gender, and location settings. This update introduces suggestions that can be tuned per ad, giving advertisers a way to fine-tune who sees which specific creative without needing to build out a separate ad set for every variation.
What it's useful for
Testing whether a particular ad creative resonates better with a specific age group or gender, without duplicating the entire ad set structure.
Running broader ad set-level targeting for algorithmic efficiency, while nudging specific ads toward the audience they were actually designed for.
Reducing the number of ad sets needed to test creative-audience combinations, which can help ad sets exit the learning phase faster.
Something to watch
Because this sits at the ad level and works as a suggestion layer on top of Meta's broader push toward automated, broad targeting, it's worth testing carefully rather than assuming it behaves like a hard filter. Compare delivery and results before and after applying ad-level suggestions, and keep an eye on whether it meaningfully changes who your ads reach versus what the ad set targeting already delivers.
