Reach vs. Frequency: Why This Update Matters for Awareness Campaigns
Campaign-level frequency control isn't available everywhere. Right now it's limited to Awareness and Engagement objectives, and that's not a coincidence. These are exactly the campaign types where the balance between reach and frequency matters most.
Why reach and frequency are in tension
For awareness and engagement goals, the underlying question is usually: how many unique people can we get in front of, and how many times does each of them need to see the message before it lands? Push frequency too high and you're spending budget on diminishing returns from people who've already registered the message. Push reach too aggressively without any frequency control and your message might not land with anyone.
What campaign-level control adds
A cleaner way to enforce a media plan-style frequency target across the whole campaign, not just per ad set.
More predictable exposure math when you're reporting reach and frequency to a client or stakeholder.
Better delivery flexibility for Meta's systems, since the algorithm can shift impressions between ad sets while still respecting one shared cap.
The trade-off to know about
This feature currently requires Advantage+ campaign budget to be enabled, so you're trading some manual budget control at the ad set level for tighter frequency management at the campaign level. For awareness-focused campaigns where hitting a specific frequency target matters more than granular budget control per ad set, that trade is usually worth it.
