Should You Turn On Per-Ad Audience Targeting? Here's How to Decide
Meta's new "Choose an audience for each creative" toggle is genuinely useful, but it isn't the right setting for every account. Here's a simple way to decide whether to turn it on.
Turn it on if...
You're running multiple creative variants built for different demographics and want to test them inside one ad set instead of several.
You care more about overall campaign efficiency than guaranteeing exact delivery splits by age or gender.
You're comfortable with Meta reaching some people outside your selected audience if the algorithm believes they'll respond.
Keep it off if...
You have a strict business, legal, or compliance reason to control exactly who sees a given ad by age or gender, since this feature is explicitly a suggestion, not a hard rule.
You're running age-restricted or gender-specific product lines where any spillover delivery is a real problem, not just a minor inefficiency.
Your account relies on tightly controlled ad set-level segmentation for reporting or attribution reasons, and mixing audiences inside one ad set would muddy that.
The honest middle ground
For most standard e-commerce or lead-gen accounts testing creative against different personas, this feature is worth trying. For anything where audience control is a hard requirement rather than a preference, leave the ad set-level toggle off and keep building separate ad sets the way you always have.
