What Is Advantage+ Creative in Meta Ads Manager?
If you've set up an ad in Meta Ads Manager recently, you've probably seen a toggle labeled Advantage+ creative sitting in the Enhancements section. Here's what it actually does, when it helps, and when you might want to turn it off.
The short answer
Advantage+ creative is Meta's automated system for optimizing a single piece of ad creative across every placement it runs in — Facebook Feed, Instagram Stories, Reels, Messenger, and Audience Network. Instead of you manually building a version for each placement, Meta automatically crops, resizes, and enhances your media to fit.
What it actually changes
When enabled, Advantage+ creative can:
Automatically crop images/video to match each placement's aspect ratio
Adjust brightness, contrast, or add visual enhancements
Combine your media with elements like your Page name or a music track in Reels
Show different crops of the same asset depending on device and placement
Any enhancements you turn on apply to all the media in that ad — you can't select enhancements per individual image or video.
When it's a good idea
Advantage+ creative works well when:
You only have one or two source assets and no time to build placement-specific versions
Your creative is simple (product on a plain background, minimal text) so automated cropping has little to distort
You're running a broad campaign across many placements and want Meta's delivery system to have flexibility
When it can hurt your ad
Automation isn't free of trade-offs. Advantage+ creative can work against you when:
Your creative has text overlays or logos near the edges — auto-crop can cut them off
Brand guidelines require exact framing (e.g., legal disclaimers, precise product shots)
You've already built placement-specific assets and don't want Meta overriding your crop choices
How to turn it off (or scope it down)
Go to your ad's Enhancements section in Ads Manager.
Toggle Advantage+ creative off if you want full manual control.
Alternatively, keep it on but upload your own placement-specific ratio (e.g., a 9:16 version for Stories) — Meta will favor the asset you provide over its own crop when a matching ratio exists.
Advantage+ creative vs manual customization
| Advantage+ creative | Manual customization
Setup time | Fast — one asset, auto-applied everywhere | Slower — requires multiple ratios
Control | Low — Meta decides the crop | High — you decide exact framing
Best for | Simple creative, broad campaigns | Brand-sensitive or text-heavy creative
Bottom line
Advantage+ creative is a time-saver, not a guarantee of quality. For simple, clean creative it's genuinely useful. For anything with tight branding or on-image text, pair it with your own placement-specific assets so you're not leaving the crop entirely up to automation.
